The Summit Community Center located in Summit , New Jersey was over 50 years old and had served the community well. There had been various additions and renovations to the facility over the years. The centerpiece of the current facility was the original gymnasium. There were issues with the windows, interior finishes, and the heating and cooling systems of the original gymnasium. The original layout of the gymnasium interior created problematic program applications. Other areas of the building also had HVAC concerns and inefficiencies. Meanwhile, the Senior Citizen programs and Youth/Teen programs had expanded in recent years, resulting in inadequate program space. Finally, the need for a modern, dedicated, larger gymnasium had arisen. The existing gymnasium and program spaces, senior lounge, kitchen, and office areas were completely renovated, and a new 15,750 sq. foot addition was added. The new addition included a new covered drop-off and main entry, welcome center, High School size gymnasium, bathrooms, conference room and office spaces, and a teen game room. A new electric service and a new sprinkler system were added to serve the existing building and the new addition. Exterior improvements included parking expansion, a new outdoor senior garden, and relocation of an existing bocce court.
