NEW PUBLIC LIBRARY & COMMUNITY CENTER, CARTERET, NJ

The design challenge for this project was the conversion of an existing 1-story masonry supermarket building into the new Borough Library, while at the same time converting a 2-story masonry retail/residential building into the new Borough Community/Senior Center. A plaza was created in front on the Library/Community Center complex to connect it with the existing Town Hall, which is situated across the street, as well as create an outdoor space for residents to enjoy. 

Additional Geotechnical challenges included the construction of the new parking area on a former landfill, as well as issues with a high water table that affected the elevator construction and basement renovation.

The project was completed on time and within budget, and was greatly received by the Borough.
